In 1998 when the FDA first began to allow medicated lollipops, Helms Candy Co. along with the R & D department of Whitehall Robins developed the World's first mass produced medicated lollipop. Demands for the Dimetapp Get Better Bear Sore Throat Lollipop for children reached 125 million pops per year in 1999. To supply this demand, we utilize 3 Latini HLM die pop forming machines capable of producing 600 lollipops per minute by each machine. We are able to manufacture all types of over-the-counter medicated lollipops.
Helms Candy is the first, and possibly the only manufacturer of medicated lollipops with proper FDA and state pharmacy drug licensing that others may not have.
Our pops are made with the popular "Safety Stick" by Setterstix Corporation. These sticks will bend instead of breaking and will dissolve in the throat and stomach should a problem arise. The composistion of the special paper of the stick bonding with hot candy, provides the most effective "Candy- to-Stick" bond that is available today. Our "Setter-Stix" can also be printed on as an additional safety measure to provide recognition of the product after the wrapper has been removed. Our sticks are 3 inches long and provide over 2 1/2 inches of gripping space for the smallest of hands. Other types of lollipop holding implements on the market are well known for their inability to not bond with the candy which can be dangerous for small children. They are also known for being too small to hold onto, even for small hands. When sucking on any lollipop, the pop tends to be pulled to the back of the mouth and down the throat. When a smaller stick is used, the pop becomes hard to keep in the front of the mouth and possiby the entire stick enters the mouth cavity leaving nothing to grab onto. Other types of sticks are also a main cause for inconsistent wrapper quality.

Individual pops are wrapped by the same machine that forms the pop at equal speed for the cleanest operation possible. This process also assures a perfect pop everytime with no broken shards or flashing that can get wrapped with the pop. After forming, individual pops do not touch machinery components until the candy is wrapped and discharged onto a cooling conveyor. Printed film is easily obtained. Shapes of pops are obtained by the forming dies that are used. Dies are easily obtained through the manufacturer and most any shape with or without script can be obtained. Certain products may require special dies, please inquire. Please note: Our Bear shaped dies are already dedicated solely to Get Better Bear Pops.
